Some tips to start your (work) day rested

Sleeping tip

Does the following sound familiar? In the morning, we repeatedly hit the snooze button on our alarm clock before struggling to get out of bed. Then, we need a few cups of coffee and a 15-minute ice cold shower to finally wake up. Let's be honest, we deserve better than that! Here are some tips to start your (work) day well-rested in the morning.

Improve your sleep quality

The secret to waking up refreshed lies in a good night's sleep. Make sure you have a comfortable bed that provides adequate support. Choose a bed base and mattress that suit your body perfectly, and don't forget about your pillow. What works for one person could mean a sore neck for another. In addition, a quiet sleeping environment is essential. Keep your bedroom dark and free from noise and ensure regular ventilation.

Introduce structure

An irregular sleep rhythm can disrupt your night's sleep. While we understand you might not want to go to bed at the same time on the weekends, having a consistent sleep schedule can really help. Get up around the same time every morning and go to bed at a similar time every night. Try to stick to this rhythm as much as possible, even on weekends. It may take some getting used to at first, but over time you will notice the difference.

Embrace a regular sleep routine

Create an evening routine in which you complete all necessary tasks before going to bed. Lay out your clothes for the next day, put your breakfast items on the table, get your bag ready for work, and make sure all emails and messages have been dealt with. Eliminate all possible distractions so you can truly relax and unwind.

Say no to caffeine

It is wise to not drink coffee in the evening, as caffeine can disrupt your night's sleep. Instead, opt for caffeine-free options to ensure you don't toss and turn at night. Some examples:

  • Herbal teas: contain calming properties and help to relax. Think of chamomile tea, peppermint tea and lavender tea.
  • Warm milk: a classic. Warm milk contains tryptophan that promotes better sleep.
  • Golden milk: drink based on (almond, coconut) milk, turmeric and other spices.
  • Hot water with lemon: simple, but effective.
  • Plant-based drinks: no preference for any of the above? You can also opt for oat milk or soy milk.

TikTok-ing before bed? Not the best idea

Screens of TVs, smartphones, tablets and computers have a stimulating effect on your brain. Turn off these devices at least an hour before you go to sleep. Favour relaxing activities, such as reading or listening to soothing music, to quiet your mind and promote deep sleep.

If you follow these simple but effective tips, you can start your day full of energy and with a fresh mind. After all, a good night's sleep is the key to a productive and successful day!
