Drifting into Dreams on the Leie – De Nachtwacht

A unique spectacle on the gently flowing Leie in Kortrijk.

Year 2026

In late May, an extraordinary sight unfolded on the gently flowing Leie in Kortrijk. Passers-by looked twice as a floating bed drifted across the water, carrying a series of striking scenes. An initiative by sleep specialist De Nachtwacht in collaboration with Magnitude. Together, we wanted to inspire people to dream while highlighting the importance and value of good sleep.

Why a good night's sleep matters

Sleep rarely comes up in everyday conversation. You experience it, you sometimes miss it, but you barely think about it… until it suddenly appears right in front of you, in the middle of a river. That was exactly the intention behind our action.

So, we took to the Leie together with De Nachtwacht. Not by boat, but on a floating bed. And what unfolded on the water that day was both playful and sincere: four scenes, each showing, in its own way, why sleep really matters.

Starting the day with a musical wake-up call

The day opened with a musical awakening. A sleeping beauty sang good morning to the people of Kortrijk, because a good night's sleep carries you through the entire day. A day full of energy doesn't simply happen, it starts the night before.

Mayor Vandenberghe surrounded by phones

Later that morning, Mayor Ruth Vandenberghe appeared on the floating bed, surrounded by a tangle of old phones. Call after call, until fatigue caught up with her and she fell asleep. A recognisable image for many. Which is why De Nachtwacht and Magnitude say it clearly: the smartphone doesn't belong in the bedroom. That's not an opinion, that's sleep science.

Time together

In the afternoon, calm and romance took the stage. A couple enjoyed a slow cruise along the water, where a waiter spontaneously treated them to a drink from the quayside. The bed is, after all, the place to simply be present together as a couple. No agenda, no screens, no obligations. Just each other.

Dreaming is good for your health

The day closed with a warm family moment. A child spotted something in the water, after which a diver surfaced holding the iconic little sheep of De Nachtwacht. A nod to the world of dreams, because dreaming is good for your health. A world where anything is possible, where even the most absurd things suddenly feel real.

The bed behind the story of De Nachtwacht

De Nachtwacht didn't simply choose any bed to sail across the Leie. Every detail was carefully selected to create the perfect dream bed. They opted for a Progression box spring with the Sella headboard, upholstered in an ecru bouclé fabric, Sogno, radiating warmth and texture without ever shouting for attention. A choice that matched the mood of the day: quietly present, yet unmistakably high in quality. On board lay the Avignon mattress, a mattress that combines comfort and support in perfect balance. Even in the middle of the Leie, the bed spoke for itself.

Waarom dit voor Magnitude meer is dan een actie

Magnitude is built on the conviction that sleep comfort is never a side issue. Not a luxury you postpone, nor something that needs a special occasion. It's a daily investment in yourself. In how you meet the morning, how you move through your day, how you return, night after night, to a place that truly lets you recover.

De Nachtwacht shares that same conviction, and has done so for thirty years. As a sleep specialist rooted in Kortrijk, their expertise is precisely what gives this collaboration its strength: personal advice, deep knowledge of sleep comfort, and the willingness to tell that story in a way that genuinely resonates with people.
